Following services, we are honored to host Abby Leibman, President & CEO of MAZON: A Jewish Response to Hunger, for a timely conversation about food insecurity, public policy, and the Jewish imperative to ensure that every person has access to nutritious food.

Drawing on decades of leadership at one of the nation’s most respected anti-hunger organizations, Abby will explore the causes of hunger in America, the policies that can make a lasting difference, and the role Jewish communities can play in building a more just and compassionate society. Together, we’ll consider how our tradition calls us not only to respond to immediate need, but also to pursue the systemic change that allows every person to live with dignity.

Abby Leibman is a longtime nonprofit leader, attorney, educator, and advocate with more than 20 years of experience working with prominent organizations across California. She co-founded and served as executive director of the California Women’s Law Center for 12 years and previously served as Directing Attorney for Community Programs at Public Counsel, where she developed and directed its Child Care Law Project and managed pro bono legal services for nonprofit organizations.

Leibman has held numerous leadership roles in civic and community organizations, including the Jewish Family Service, California Women Lawyers, the Women Lawyers’ Association of Los Angeles, and the California Children’s Council. She has also served on the Los Angeles Mayor’s Advisory Committee on Child Care, the Los Angeles Police Commission’s Women’s Advisory Council, and the L.A. Sheriff’s Department Equity Oversight Panel.

Her work has included leadership development, civic engagement, and addressing discrimination and equity. She directed the New Leaders Project of the Jewish Federation Council of Greater Los Angeles, developing a curriculum to help emerging leaders make civic engagement a priority.

Leibman currently serves as adjunct faculty at UCLA and the Graduate School of Management at American Jewish University. She holds a J.D. from Hastings College of Law and a B.A. in Political Science, magna cum laude, from UC San Diego.
